Overcoming My Fear
Updated: Jul 6, 2021

When I first joined the Praise Team at my church, I told myself and my Worship Leader that I would never lead a song. I was comfortable doing so. I was okay with just singing with the team in the background. Then, one day my Worship Leader sent me a text saying that she would like for me to work on this particular song. I didn't think anything of it; it was a small part of the song. I started working on that part, but here's the catch, it turned out to be the whole song!
After getting lessons and learning the song, it came easier and I was becoming comfortable. However, I still had fear of leading it. My pastor then quoted 2 Timothy 1:7;
"...7 For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.” -2 Timothy 1:7(HCSB)
I was able to tell fear to leave, and I was able to tell fear that you are not welcomed here. I was able to welcome joy into my life, I was able to welcome peace into my life, and I was able to welcome love into my life. When I did that, I was able to lead for the first time! I moved like I have never moved before. This all happened because I was able to overcome my fear and let God take control.
